Salary: R1,216,824 per annum (all-inclusive remuneration package)

Requirements:
- Educational Qualification:
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- A Degree in Legal / Law or an equivalent qualification (NQF level 8) with a minimum of 4 years or more in LLB.
- Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience at middle management or senior management level.
- Other Requirements:
- A valid code 8/10 driver‘s license.
- No criminal record or pending cases.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Legislative Knowledge: Understanding of relevant legislation, Public Service Regulations, Traffic and Safety legislation, GPG legislation, and the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.
- Strategic Understanding: Knowledge of departmental strategic objectives, intergovernmental and stakeholder relations, and understanding of departmental strategic priorities and programmes.
- Legal Expertise: Knowledge of legal advice, litigation procedures, policy analysis and development, and compliance with international requirements.

Key Duties:
- Legal Advisory and Management:
- Provide and manage professional legal advice, opinions, and litigation processes within the department.
- Ensure the department’s legal capacity is strengthened to provide effective legal advice and support.
- Oversee the management of contracts, service level agreements, and litigation matters.
- Legal Compliance and Support:
- Monitor the implementation of and provide advice on the interpretation of legislation.
- Manage legal resource centers and information management.
- Formulate legal opinions, support management, and ensure quality legislation within the department.
- Advise and ensure compliance with international organizations’ requirements.
- Policy Development:
- Develop and implement sound legal policies, documents, and contracts.
- Assist in the preparation of cabinet memoranda and the development of legal policies and regulations.
- Litigation and Risk Management:
- Manage litigation procedures and monitor legislative developments locally and internationally.
- Ensure compliance and advocate for relevant legislation, regulations, acts, and policies.
- Resource Management:
- Manage resources, including human, financial, equipment, and assets, within the Directorate.
- Ensure proper implementation of budget, monitoring, and expenditure reporting.
