AECI Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship 2024 Overview
AECI is offering a Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship at their Umbogintwini, KwaZulu-Natal facility. This apprenticeship provides candidates with hands-on work experience in mechanical fitting, particularly within AECI’s utilities maintenance department. The position is a contract opportunity, aimed at equipping candidates with practical and theoretical expertise in mechanical maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Master the skills and knowledge required for an artisan in mechanical fitting.
- Execute tasks aligned with the training plan, attending all necessary training and assessments.
- Maintain and repair plant equipment like pumps, centrifuges, steam traps, and reticulation equipment under supervision.
- Cooperate with team members and assist in daily maintenance tasks and breakdowns.
- Participate in standby duties under the guidance of assigned Maintenance Fitters during the second year of the program.
- Adhere to AECI’s safety standards and regulations.
Eligibility Criteria
Basic Requirements
- A Matric/Grade 12 certificate with Mathematics and Science.
- An N3 certificate is required to apply for the Trade Test.
- A driver‘s license is advantageous.
- Basic understanding of process plants and maintenance.
- Health clearance to work in a chemical environment.
- Experience with mechanical work and hand/power tools.
Working Competencies
- Strong safety awareness.
- Ability to work well in teams and adapt to various working conditions.
- Solid technical knowledge.
