Job Description
As a Blue Flag Lifeguard, you will be responsible for:
- Performing lifeguard duties as part of a team.
- Patrolling the beach, monitoring activities, and reporting to the Senior Lifeguard.
- Conducting and assisting with rescues and providing first aid.
- Completing incident reports and assisting with beach risk assessments and operational plans.
- Promoting water safety awareness and conducting environmental education programs.
- Maintaining beach safety and supporting beach management operations.
- Communicating with the public about drowning prevention.
- Maintaining and operating lifeguard equipment, power craft, and stations.
- Assisting in retaining the Blue Flag standards and status.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring a safe and enjoyable beach environment.
- Working irregular hours, including weekends, public holidays, and overtime.
- Working in various geographical areas within the Kouga region.
- Maintaining valid qualifications at all times.
- Collaborating with the lifeguard team and effectively communicating.
Requirements
Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

Surf Lifeguard Certificate or equivalent | Must hold a Surf Lifeguard Certificate or an equivalent qualification. |
Current Annual Retest (2024/2025 season) | Must have a valid annual retest for the 2024/2025 season. |
2 years of professional lifeguard experience | Must have at least 2 years of experience as a professional Surf Lifeguard. |
Blue Flag Lifeguard experience | Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Blue Flag lifeguard is required. |
Language proficiency | Must be fluent in at least 2 of the 3 official languages prevalent in the Kouga area. |
Salary and Benefits
- Salary: R604.00 per day
Advantageous Qualifications
- Valid First Aid Level 2 or 3 Certificate or equivalent.
- Supervisory Skills Training Course Certificate.
- Valid Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) Driver‘s Certificate.
- Valid Skipper’s License.
- Code B Driver’s License with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
